History
1953
Weingut Kreuzberg is the property of Ludwig Kreuzberg and Frank Josten. Ludwig Kreuzberg is also the winemaker, assisted by Benno Wagner. Sandra Kreuzberg manages the Straußwirtschaft (a sort of wine tavern), located next to the winery.
Hermann - Josef Kreuzberg founded the estate in 1953. He has remained the sole owner and a director for 40 years and enlarged the size of the vineyards to 3.5 hectares. In 1994 Ludwig Kreuzberg took over the winery management and kept extending the vineyards. Frank Josten joined the management team in 2013 and has been running the business together with Ludwig Kreuzberg.
Approach
The vineyards of Weingut Kreuzberg are cultivated with much respect to the terroir. The winery has been a member of VDP.Ahr, since 2000.
The majority of the parcels are located in Dernau. There are also some great spots in Hardtberg, Marienthaler Trotenberg, Ahrweiler Rosenthal and Ahrweiler Silberberg as well as in the Neuenahr Schieferlay and Neuenahr Sonnenberg. Two-thirds of the vineyards are scattered on the steep slopes.
The parcels are planted with Spätburgunder (77 percent), Frühburgunder (9 percent), Riesling (2 percent), Cabernet (4 percent), Portugieser (2 percent), Dornfelder (4 percent), and Weißburgunder (2 percent).
The basic wines are vinified for 10 to 12 days, the VDP. Grosses Gewächs wines – between 14 and 20 days. Ludwig Kreuzberg and Benno Wagner use wooden barriques and light filtration. The whites are vinified via cold fermentation to get maximum freshness.
