Château de Masse

About

Château de Masse

Château de Masse is a new domaine, but based on a 17th century château. The vineyards of the domaine are mostly located in the villages of Beaune, Pommard, and Meursault. Aude Benoit, the owner and winemaker of the domaine, farms 3 hectares of vineyards with an approach close to organic, but without certification. The top wine of the domaine is Pommard Premier Cru Les Charmots.

History

Château de Masse is a newly-created domaine, with Aude Benoit in charge of vinification since 2016.

Maxime Benoit and Aude Benoit bought the estate in 1999, after Maxime Benoit decided to develop his career in agriculture. They both work in the vineyards. Aude Benoit also does the vinification for Charles Ballot in Meursault.

The domaine owes its history to Maxime Benoit's great-grandfather who gave up his bakery business, bought some vines and started bottling his own wines.

Approach

Organic

Château de Masse is run by Aude Benoit, who farms the vineyards close to organic principles, but without certification. The plots are exclusively worked by hand and horse. Soils and vines are being treated with respect for the environment. Ageing is conducted in barrels and lasts from 14 to 18 months according to the appellation. Minimum interference is applied.
