About
Domaine François Feuillet
Domaine François Feuillet is located in Chevannes, Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy. The holdings cover 17 hectares within 23 appellations from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin. David Duband, the winemaker, farms the vineyards of the domaine organically, certified by Ecocert in 2010.
The wines of the domaine are alive, distinctive and elegant and represent the richness of the terroirs.
The top wines of the domaine are: Morey-Saint-Denis Grand Cru Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru. The Morey-Saint-Denis Grand Cru Clos de la Roche 2010 scored 95-97, the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2010 scored 94-96 and the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 scored 93-95 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker’s tasting notes on the Morey-Saint-Denis Grand Cru Clos de la Roche 2010: “The 2010 Clos de la Roche opens with intriguing, exotic scents of tar, smoke, incense and liquorice. The wine virtually explodes on the palate with a pure expression of fruit and intense minerality. Layers of flavour continue to build in all dimensions all the way through to the huge, dramatic finish. This is a dazzling effort, and quite possibly the very finest wine I have ever tasted from David Duband. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.”
History
1965
Domaine François Feuillet is managed by David Duband. David Duband comes from a winemaking family. His father Pierre Duband founded Domaine Pierre Duband in 1965. Pierre Duband worked with the Cave-Cooperative des Hautes-Cétes for his vineyard holdings in the Hautes-Cétes, Nuits-Saint-Georges and some Nuits premiers crus. One of these, Aux Thorey, was on a farming contract and in 1990 resold to Parisian lawyer François Feuillet. François Feuillet decided to invest in a vineyard in Burgundy, following his own personal preference and taste buds. He hired David Duband as his winemaker for their first vintage in 1991. The deal with David Duband was done on a 50:50 sharecropping basis. David Duband is in charge of winemaking and François Feuillet gets half the wine from those vineyards. That is why the wines of the domaine can be found under either the Domaine David Duband or Domaine François Feuillet labels, being identical.
In 2005 François Feuillet bought Domaine Truchot-Martin in Morey-Saint-Denis - with its grands crus, and in 2009 - Domaine Louis Rémy with its vineyards in various appellations.
In 2007 a new winery and cellar were built. In 2012 a storage facility, a new office, a reception room and a tasting room were launched.
Approach
Certified organic by Ecocert since 2010
Domaine François Feuillet’s vineyards are farmed organically, certified by Ecocert in 2010.
Harvesting is done manually and crushing is done by foot.
The bunches are 60 to 75 percent destemmed. For the grands crus only 10 percent of bunches are destemmed. Maceration is conducted in tanks. Ageing is carried out in oak barrels with 30 percent of new wood for village wines and 40 percent for premiers crus and grands crus.
In 2006 David Duband started to apply the pedicelle approach - entailing snipping off all but the last tiny stem near to the grape. But later, he had to give up this practice, as it was too time-consuming.
